December 27 , 2009
Millions of immigrants, who are well informed, are afraid to participate in this Visa Lottery because they believe it is a trap leading them right into deportation. This could very well occur. The Welfare Reform Act of 1996, says that ‘all’ government agencies, without excluding any branch, must report the whereabouts of every undocumented immigrant they know of to Immigration. This position was confirmed by a more recent law known as the Patriot Act.
On the contrary, in 1998 the IRS, the most important federal government organization to collect taxes, began to give out ITIN numbers, but publicly declared that they would not share any information with Immigration about immigrants who pay taxes. To this day, they have kept their word.
You and I know that the sharing of information between governmental agencies is a normal procedure. Immigration has access to national intelligence to find out the whereabouts of almost all undocumented immigrants, but do not have the disposition to do so. It is not the best idea to promote a massive panic of deportation for the North American Nation, nor put a stop to their tax contributions...(more...)

Governor Bill Richardson at the International Immigrants Foundation
A warm reception welcomed Governor Richardson at the International Immigrants Foundation, where a jubilant crowd anxiously awaited an interactive dialogue with the Governor of New Mexico.
Richardson, the first Latino running for the Democratic Presidential nomination, expressed his views on immigration staying that if elected President would implement a plan to legalize the 12 millions undocumented who are in the country. Also expressed his intentions of keeping an immigration policy “healthy and compassionate”, taking into account that immigrants are”people who want to improve the lives of their families”.
Adding that “America is strengthened by immigrants. Our diversity is our strength”. |

POLICY -- What's next in the immigration debate?

Edward Juarez-Pagliocco, president of the
International Immigrants Foundation in New York, said he thinks the tide is
turning, but new legislation will not be the watershed that many
pro-immigrant groups would like. Juarez-Pagliocco's group, founded in 1973,
is a non-governmental organization geared toward helping immigrants in the
